PURCHASING A PUPPY
At Cotton Lake Gundogs we take several steps to insure you are getting a healthy and well socialized puppy. All puppies will stay with their mother and littermates until they are at least ten weeks old. This allows them to learn necessary social skills, build confidence and become more mentally stable dogs. In order to reserve a puppy, a $200 non-refundable deposit made for us to hold your puppy. After we have received your deposit, we will give you a week to decide what you want the puppy to be named. We will register all puppies through the American Kennel Club and give you the complete registration. We complete the registration as to prevent purebred dogs from going unregistered.
All puppies will have received their first round of shots from our local veterinarian, have their tails docked and dewclaws removed. Each puppy will come with a puppy starter kit from Purina® that we receive as members of Purina Pro Club®.
Before picking your puppy up we will need to be provided with a veterinarian reference. This is to ensure our puppies will be provided quality healthcare and remain up-to-date on all vaccines and heartworm preventative.
Finally, we will arrange a date for us to either bring the puppy to your home or for you to come pick him or her up from our house. You will then sign the adoption contract and pay the remaining balance which will be discussed prior to beginning the adoption process.
We will gladly take back any dog at any time, no questions asked. We understand people have things come up and we want to be as involved as possible. We ask that you return the dog to us before taking it to a shelter or turning it over to a rescue. We will not refund you the purchase amount but this insures the puppy will not end up in unfavorable circumstances.

ADOPTING A RESCUE
Often we receive fosters from bird-dog rescue organizations. We have fostered full-blooded bird-dogs as well as mixed breeds. The adoption process varies between different rescues but as the foster family for these dogs, we have the say in which family gets to adopt them. Adoption applications must be completed through the organization websites. Most require a volunteer to do a home-visit where they will make sure the living environment will be sufficient, a vet reference and an adoption fee.
We post all of our foster dogs on our Facebook page. Sometimes, these fosters are required to remain in our care for a certain amount of time to treat various health issues. If you are interested in a dog we are fostering, please contact us via Facebook or email us at [email protected].
